Immigration authorities have taken more than 130 expatriates into custody as part of their ongoing operation to address illegal immigration in the Maldives. The operation, which began recently, aims to identify and detain foreign nationals who are residing or working in the country without proper documentation or in violation of their visa conditions.
The Maldives Immigration has been conducting raids and inspections at various locations, including markets, businesses, and food establishments, particularly in the capital city of Male'. This crackdown is part of the government's efforts to regulate the expatriate workforce and address issues related to undocumented foreign workers in the country.
Officials have stated that the operation will continue and may expand to other islands in the coming months. They have also urged the public to report any information about illegal expatriates through their newly launched online platform, "Immigration Watch."
