Azerbaijan's national carrier, Azerbaijan Airlines, has announced a significant expansion of its international routes with the introduction of direct flights to the Maldives. Starting November 8, 2024, the airline will operate twice-weekly flights between Baku's Heydar Aliyev International Airport and Velana International Airport in Malé, the capital of the Maldives.
This new route marks a milestone for Azerbaijan Airlines, as it's the first time the carrier will offer direct services to this popular island destination. The flights are scheduled to depart from Baku on Fridays and Sundays, with return flights from Malé on Saturdays and Mondays. The airline plans to utilize its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft for this six-hour journey, providing passengers with a comfortable travel experience.
Tickets for these inaugural flights are now available for purchase, with round-trip fares starting at $633. This competitive pricing is expected to attract both leisure and business travelers looking for convenient access to the Maldives' renowned beaches and luxury resorts.
The addition of the Maldives route complements Azerbaijan Airlines' existing network, which includes over 2,000 flights per month to various destinations. The airline operates a diverse fleet of aircraft from manufacturers such as Airbus, Boeing, and Embraer, allowing it to serve a wide range of routes efficiently.
While the Maldives connection represents a new long-haul offering, Azerbaijan Airlines continues to maintain strong regional ties. Its busiest route remains the service to Tbilisi, Georgia, with five daily round-trip flights. The airline also operates daily flights to nine other destinations, including a frequent service to Moscow.
This expansion into the Maldives market demonstrates Azerbaijan Airlines' commitment to growth and its ability to adapt to changing travel trends. As the tourism industry continues to recover post-pandemic, this new route is poised to offer travelers an exciting option for their holiday plans in the coming season.
