Crackdown on Illegal Dumping at Industrial Village Announced

ree

Authorities have launched a coordinated effort to address the longstanding waste management issues at Male's Industrial Village. WAMCO (Waste Management Corporation) has announced plans to take action against individuals who illegally dispose of garbage in the area.

The clean-up initiative, which began yesterday, involves multiple government agencies working together to tackle the accumulation of waste that has plagued the Industrial Village for an extended period. WAMCO revealed that this marks the third comprehensive cleaning operation in the area within the past nine months.

In collaboration with the Male City Council, WAMCO intends to implement measures against those who violate waste disposal regulations. The corporation has also called for public cooperation in curbing such unlawful practices.

The current clean-up operation, dubbed "Industrial Village Clean Up," is a joint effort involving the Male City Council, WAMCO, the Ministry of Housing, the Ministry of Local Government, Maldives Ports Limited, and the Police.

Following the clean-up, the City Council plans to restrict access to certain areas of the Industrial Village. This decision comes in response to individuals driving pickup trucks into these locations to dump waste illegally. The council has announced intentions to install gates to control entry and exit points, as well as to establish security measures in cooperation with the police.

WAMCO emphasises the importance of collective action in maintaining cleanliness and adhering to proper waste management practices. As the authorities work to address the issue, they urge all citizens to play their part in keeping the Industrial Village and surrounding areas clean and free from illegal dumping.
