A Maldivian charity worker is in serious condition following a car accident in Bangladesh when the driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel. The incident occurred on Tuesday during a long journey from Dhaka to Chittagong.

Hussein Haisham, a manager for the Maldivian charity organization "Hidmath," was traveling to oversee the construction of a mosque when the accident happened. According to a spokesperson for the charity, the vehicle lost control and crashed into a tree after the driver dozed off.

Haisham suffered severe injuries, including a fractured femur that punctured through his leg. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Dhaka, where he is currently receiving treatment. Doctors are scheduled to perform surgery on his leg later today.

"We are deeply concerned about Hussein's condition and are doing everything we can to ensure he receives the best possible care," said the Hidmath spokesperson. They added that another member of the organization was also in the vehicle but escaped with minor injuries.

The charity, which focuses on providing aid to underprivileged Muslim communities worldwide, is currently overseeing the construction of four mosques in Bangladesh.

This incident highlights the dangers of driver fatigue, especially on long journeys in foreign countries. The charity has stated that they will be reviewing their travel policies to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Haisham's family has been notified, and the organization is arranging for them to travel to Bangladesh to be with him during his recovery.
