Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar announced today that the government will initiate a "very large" housing project before the end of this year. The Minister revealed this information while responding to a question during today's session of the People's Majlis (Parliament).

Answering a question posed by Hussein Ziyad, the member for Vaikaradhoo constituency, the Minister stated that the current government could only proceed with new projects after resolving issues related to projects initiated by the previous MDP government.

"However, I can assure you that, God willing, a new project, a very large housing project, will be launched before the end of this year," the Minister said.

Dr. Haidar mentioned that they are currently working on resolving issues related to housing projects started by the previous administration. During today's session, opposition MDP members also focused their questions on matters concerning land plots distributed under the previous government's "Binveriya" scheme, land plots from Gulhifalhu, and flats being constructed in Hulhumale Phase 2.

When opposition members began to raise their voices, claiming that the Minister was not providing adequate answers to these questions, the Speaker intervened, calling out the names of these members and ordering them to leave the chamber.

This announcement comes as a significant development in the government's efforts to address the ongoing housing challenges in the country, particularly in the greater Malé area.
