Immerse yourself into Manta Magic: Unleash the Wonders at the InterContinental Maldives

InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau, located in the Raa Atoll, shows its commitment to manta ray conservation with the forthcoming Manta Retreat from March 9-12.

The resort, located on a lagoon that was recently identified as a critical feeding place for young manta rays, has been working with the Manta Trust since 2019.

During the four-day programme, organised by the Manta Trust's island-based staff, attendees can snorkel with juvenile rays, help restore coral reefs, and attend marine biologist-led educational lectures. The Manta ID session teaches attendees how to recognise and record baby mantas, and they can even name a newly identified ray.

Certified divers can explore an open water 'cleaning station' around the island, where rays are cared for by resident 'cleaner fish.'

The retreat, led by Meral Hafeez, Manta Trust's base leader at the InterContinental Maldives, provides a rare opportunity to watch and participate to the protection of this globally threatened species.

Meral Hafeez expressed her delight, saying, "I am looking forward to sharing the wonders of Maldivian marine life and manta rays with the participants of this year's Manta Retreat."

One-on-one meetings with the marine biologist can be arranged upon request, and the resort provides sustainably-run excursions available for separate registration. This project demonstrates InterContinental's dedication to marine conservation and offers visitors a meaningful and instructive experience in the gorgeous Maldivian waters.
