The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized the Maldives for its exceptional progress in public health, presenting the nation with a prestigious award at a recent regional meeting.

During the 77th Regional Committee Meeting of the Southeast Asia Region held in New Delhi, India, WHO's Southeast Asia Regional Director Saima Wazeed bestowed the honor upon the Maldives. The country's Health Ministry highlighted that this accolade acknowledges their successful initiatives in multiple areas of public health.

Key achievements that contributed to this recognition include the Maldives' effective measures to curb hepatitis B infections among children and significant reductions in mortality rates for infants, children under five, newborns, and mothers.

The Maldives shares this distinction with several other nations in the region. Korea, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand were also recipients of the award, underscoring the collective efforts to improve public health across Southeast Asia.

This recognition from the WHO serves as a testament to the Maldives' commitment to enhancing the well-being of its population and sets a benchmark for continued progress in the field of public health.
