A significant cleanup initiative in the Industrial Zone has yielded impressive results, with 928 tons of waste removed since the operation began on May 3rd. This information was disclosed by WAMCO (Waste Management Corporation) through a post on X (formerly Twitter) yesterday.
The cleanup effort, spearheaded by the Male' City Council, has seen collaboration between WAMCO and the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. This joint venture aims to address the growing concerns surrounding illegal activities and environmental issues in the Industrial Zone.
In recent times, the area has been plagued by an increase in unlawful practices, prompting the City Council to take decisive action. As part of their strategy to curb these activities, the council has announced plans to improve lighting in the area. Aminath Shatufa, the City Council's media official, informed the press that installation of lights will commence soon to enhance visibility and security.
Furthermore, the Male' City Council has revealed intentions to restrict access to the Industrial Zone in the near future by installing gates and implementing closure measures. These steps are being taken to regain control over the area and prevent further degradation.
The prolonged neglect of the Industrial Zone has not only resulted in unsightly conditions but has also led to public health concerns. Reports indicate that the unsanitary state of the area has contributed to the spread of various diseases, underscoring the urgency of the ongoing cleanup and revitalization efforts.
As the cleanup operation continues, authorities hope that these measures will not only improve the aesthetic appeal of the Industrial Zone but also create a safer and healthier environment for the community
