President Muizzu Calls for Harsher Penalties on Reckless Driving

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has instructed relevant government agencies to amend laws to impose stricter measures against reckless driving.
Last night, a 23-year-old man named Hassan Samah died when a speeding car collided with his motorcycle in Hulhumalé.
Expressing condolences to Samah's family on X (formerly Twitter), President Muizzu stated that preventing such tragic incidents requires everyone's cooperation. He assured all citizens that the government would take necessary steps to stop dangerous speeding and make roads in Malé and other islands safe for everyone to use.
President Muizzu announced that he has directed relevant government agencies to amend laws and regulations to implement harsh measures against those who drive at high speeds in any part of the country at any time.
Following the accident, police have arrested the car driver, identified as Mohamed Visam Sidugey, 26, from Violet Fihi, Hithadhoo, Addu City.
The deceased, Hassan Samah, was a Corrections officer. He had come from K. Maafushi to participate in a marathon. Samah passed away late at night while receiving treatment at Hulhumalé Hospital for serious injuries sustained in the accident.
