The Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has unveiled an ambitious plan to significantly expand its waste collection services in the Male' region, targeting a substantial increase in its business client base.
Managing Director Mujtaba Jaleel announced that WAMCO plans to bring 8,000 new business establishments under its waste management services by the end of next year, a move expected to generate an additional MVR 15 million in revenue.
Currently, out of 12,000 businesses registered in STELCO's billing system in Male', only 2,000 utilize WAMCO's waste collection services. The corporation's billing is integrated with STELCO's electricity billing system, providing a streamlined payment process for clients.
"We're taking a personalized approach to business acquisition," Jaleel explained. "Our teams are visiting establishments individually to offer tailored waste collection packages. Some businesses prefer nighttime collection, while others opt for twice-daily service. Our priority is customizing our services to meet customer needs."
The corporation has already made significant progress in its expansion efforts. Over the past two months, WAMCO representatives have visited approximately 1,000 establishments, successfully converting 270 of them into new clients.
WAMCO officials have expressed concerns about the current practice of businesses using private waste collectors, noting instances where this has led to improper waste disposal on streets. The corporation emphasizes the importance of businesses switching to their professional waste management services to ensure proper waste handling and disposal.
This strategic expansion initiative represents a crucial step in WAMCO's efforts to streamline waste management in the Male' region while boosting its operational revenue through professional service delivery.
