The Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has expanded its fleet with environmentally friendly vehicles specifically designed for plastic waste management in the Malé region. This initiative aims to enhance the company's efforts in tackling plastic waste issues across the Maldives.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) facilitated the acquisition of these vehicles, while the Coca-Cola Foundation provided the necessary financial support for the project.
With the addition of two new electric vehicles, WAMCO's eco-friendly fleet now consists of six vehicles in total. These specialized vehicles are expected to significantly improve the collection of various types of plastic waste in the Malé area.
WAMCO officials expressed optimism about the impact of these new additions, stating that the enhanced fleet will contribute to more effective plastic waste collection in the capital region. Furthermore, they anticipate that this development will bolster their ongoing efforts to address the broader plastic waste challenges faced by the entire country.
The corporation emphasized that this expansion of their environmentally friendly fleet represents a crucial step forward in their mission to manage plastic waste more efficiently and sustainably throughout the Maldives.
