WAMCO Expands Resort Waste Collection Empire with 3 Luxury Properties

The Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has strengthened its foothold in the resort waste management sector by signing agreements with three additional luxury resorts, expanding its "Fathuruveshi" service network.

The new partnerships include prestigious properties Malahini Kuda Bandos Maldives, Jumeirah Olhahali Maldives, and Movenpick Kuredhivaru Maldives. WAMCO officials have also revealed that agreements with two more resorts are in the pipeline, which will bring their total service coverage to eight resorts.

Managing Director Mujtaba Jaleel highlighted the environmental benefits of this expansion, noting that previously, resorts relied on private contractors who sometimes disposed of waste improperly, including dumping into the ocean. "Our modern, systematic approach ensures environmentally responsible waste management," Jaleel explained.

The service, which launched on July 11 this year, initially partnered with Cora Cora Maldives, Alila Kothaifaru, and Noku Maldives. WAMCO's initiative addresses the significant challenges resorts face in transporting waste to regional transfer stations.

"Our only operational cost is logistics," Jaleel stated, emphasizing the service's financial viability. "This venture will generate substantial revenue for the corporation." He revealed WAMCO's ambitious goal to eventually partner with every resort in the Maldives.

The corporation has implemented a state-of-the-art waste management system specifically designed for resort operations. WAMCO's vessels now collect waste directly from participating resorts, offering a convenient and environmentally sustainable solution to the hospitality industry's waste management challenges.

This expansion marks a significant step toward WAMCO's vision of centralizing and standardizing waste management practices across the Maldives' luxury resort sector, ensuring both environmental protection and operational efficiency.
