The Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) is poised for a significant financial uplift, with Managing Director Mujtaba Jaleel projecting a 15 million rufiyaa increase in revenue through an ambitious business registration initiative.
Speaking to reporters following a ceremony at Magiri Hotel, where agreements were signed with three additional resorts for waste management services, Jaleel outlined the company's transformative journey over the past year.
In a remarkable achievement, WAMCO has more than doubled its residential customer base from 27,000 to 55,000 households since the current administration took office. This growth was largely attributed to the strategic integration of waste management fees with STELCO electricity bills.
However, a significant gap remains in the business sector. While 12,000 businesses are registered with STELCO in the Male' region, only 2,000 were registered with WAMCO six months ago. The corporation's recent two-month registration campaign has successfully reached out to 1,000 businesses, with 271 already completing their registration.
"We're targeting to integrate at least 8,000 businesses into our STELCO meter system by the end of 2025," Jaleel explained, emphasizing the potential revenue boost of approximately 15 million rufiyaa in the coming year.
WAMCO is implementing a customized approach to waste collection, acknowledging the diverse needs of different businesses. While some cafes and restaurants require twice-daily collection services, others prefer late-night collections after closing at 1 AM.
The corporation's leadership, including the MD and DMD, are personally engaging with businesses facing challenges, demonstrating their commitment to responsive service delivery. This customer-centric approach includes tailored waste management packages designed to meet specific business needs.
"By adapting to our customers' requirements and maintaining close communication, we're confident in achieving substantial improvements in our service delivery and coverage," Jaleel concluded, highlighting WAMCO's dedication to enhancing waste management efficiency across the Male' region.
