In a significant development for regional air travel, Jetstar Asia has pioneered the first low-cost air connection between Singapore and Sri Lanka's capital, marking a new era of affordable travel between the two destinations.
The inaugural Flight 3K333 took to the skies from Changi Airport on Thursday, establishing Jetstar Asia as the exclusive budget carrier on this route. The airline will operate five weekly return services using its Airbus A320 aircraft, offering flexible scheduling with both morning and evening departure options.
The new service is set to inject vitality into the travel sector, with an annual capacity of 90,000 low-fare seats. This expansion not only opens up Sri Lanka's rich cultural heritage to Singapore-based travelers but also strengthens Singapore's position as a key aviation hub for Southeast Asia.

"Sri Lanka represents more than just a new destination – it's a gateway to adventure," remarked Jetstar Asia CEO John Simeone. "From pristine coastlines to diverse landscapes, we're making these experiences accessible to more travelers through our competitive pricing."
The initiative has garnered strong support from aviation authorities on both ends. Changi Airport Group's Executive Vice President for Air Hub & Cargo Development, Lim Ching Kiat, emphasized how the new route enhances connectivity options for regional travelers, while positioning Changi as a crucial gateway to the Asia Pacific region.
In Sri Lanka, the announcement has been met with particular enthusiasm. Air Chief Marshal (Retd.) Harsha Abeywickrema, Chairman of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka), highlighted the route's potential to revolutionize the country's tourism sector. This sentiment was echoed by Sri Lanka Tourism Chairman Buddhika Hewawasam, who revealed ambitious plans to attract three million tourists by the end of next year.
The timing of this launch aligns perfectly with Sri Lanka's tourism growth strategy, potentially tapping into broader markets including Australia and other regional destinations. The service not only promises to boost tourism but also aims to facilitate stronger business connections between the two nations.
Travelers interested in exploring this new route can now book their journeys through Jetstar's official website, with competitive fares available for both leisure and business travelers. The airline's partnership with local stakeholders, including Changi Airport Group and Hayleys, has been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.
This strategic route expansion represents a significant milestone in making international travel more accessible while fostering stronger economic and cultural ties between Singapore and Sri Lanka.
