ree

The Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has issued a statement defending its financial practices in response to allegations of corruption published on the "Dhiyavaru" website. The company firmly denies the accusations, emphasizing its commitment to transparency and proper financial management.

The controversy arose from an article on the Dhiyavaru website, which claimed that a project to purchase 54 garbage trucks for 50 million rufiyaa involved corrupt practices. The report alleged that the transaction was being conducted through a Dubai-registered company owned by a family member of WAMCO's Managing Director, Mujtaba Jaleel.

In its official response, WAMCO categorically rejected these claims, labeling the information in the article as false. The company asserted that all financial decisions are made through a comprehensive system involving specialized parties. According to the statement, final approvals for such decisions come from the company's board and bid committee, ensuring a thorough vetting process.

WAMCO further clarified that, contrary to the allegations, no discussions have taken place regarding the purchase of the trucks mentioned in the corruption claims. The company expressed concern that the spread of false information could undermine public trust in its integrity.

In light of these events, WAMCO has urged media outlets and the public to verify information with the company before publishing any articles related to its operations. This appeal aims to prevent the dissemination of inaccurate information that could potentially damage the company's reputation.

The incident highlights the challenges faced by public corporations in maintaining transparency while combating misinformation. WAMCO's response underscores the importance of fact-checking and responsible reporting in preserving the integrity of public institutions and maintaining public trust.
