In a customer-centric move, WAMCO is set to streamline its billing system across the Maldives' atolls by merging waste management and electricity bills starting January 2024, according to Mohamed Akram, Assistant Manager of Sales and Projects.
Speaking on PSM's "Raajje Today" program, Akram revealed that households consuming more than 34 units of electricity will receive a consolidated bill, combining both utility services. While the new system launches in January, customers will see their first combined bills in February, reflecting January's services.
The integration aims to simplify payment processes for residents, marking a significant improvement in service delivery. Ahmed Shafiu, General Manager of Southern Operations, emphasized that this decision came after thorough consultations with relevant stakeholders.
In a notable service enhancement, WAMCO is also upgrading its waste collection frequency. "We're transitioning to daily waste collection services across all WAMCO-serviced islands," Shafiu announced, adding that operations will follow standardized protocols across different islands.
Currently, WAMCO's services extend beyond Male' region to various cities, including L. Fonadhoo, L. Gan, K. Maafushi, and Hinmafushi. The billing integration represents the latest step in the company's efforts to modernize utility services across the Maldives.
The new billing system is expected to benefit thousands of households across the atolls, streamlining payment procedures and improving service efficiency for island communities.
